Safe water project (Tanzania)
In Lower Moshi, a region south of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, local communities and schools suffer greatly from drinking unsafe water. The available water contains bacteria that cause many waterborne diseases, such as diarrhea and cholera. Additionally, the water has high levels of naturally occurring fluoride, leading to dental fluorosis.
Element15, in collaboration with FTK and Net4Kids, is undertaking a project to install 50 BAR filtration systems in five communities. These BARs will provide safe drinking water to over 9,000 people each day. To ensure the water is completely safe for consumption, the BARs will be equipped with Element15's custom bacteria filters, to remove bacteria, and locally sourced bone charcoal filters to reduce fluoride levels to safe levels.
For three years, these BARs will be operational and maintained by local mechanics. Element15 will train both community members and the mechanics to ensure proper use and maintenance of the filters.
