The BAR™ filtration system

Element15 has developed the BAR™ filtration system, an innovative, community-scale water treatment technology that removes harmful substances, such as bacteria and heavy metals, from drinking water. The BAR™ system delivers high volumes of safe drinking water, making it ideally suited for entire communities. The BAR™ filtration system is specifically effective in removing the following harmful substances:

Bacteria and parasites

The BAR™ filtration system removes bacteria and parasites from drinking water using superior-quality microfiltration membranes with a proven retention rate of at least 99.9999% (log 6). This ensures that harmful microorganisms, such as E. coli, salmonella and parasites, are effectively eliminated.

Heavy metals

Element15 has developed a unique filter cartridge using Kinetic Degration Fluxion (KDF) to remove heavy metals from drinking water, such as iron, manganese, and mercury, caused by illegal mining activities. KDF is a special mix of copper and zinc that triggers a natural chemical reaction when water flows through it. This reaction changes harmful metals in the water into solid particles, which are then easily filtered out by the BAR™ filtration system.

The big advantage is that this process works without electricity, without chemicals, and with very little maintenance, making it ideal for rural and peri-urban communities. In this way, even heavily contaminated water can be made clean and safe to drink.

Other harmful substances

In addition to bacteria and heavy metals, groundwater in rural communities can contains high levels of fluoride. Long-term exposure to fluoride can cause serious health problems for children, such as dental and skeletal fluorosis. The BAR™ filtration system not only removes these harmful substances, but also improves the taste and smell of the water, giving it the same clean and fresh quality as purified bottled water.

The BAR system does not require electricity or any external power source to function. It can be connected to an existing water source, for example hand pump, or connected to a watertank in combination with a solar pump, ensuring reliable operation in remote or off-grid locations.

With an output of roughly 1,800 liters per hour, the BAR system can supply safe drinking water for an entire community. The purified water maintains the same taste and quality as bottled water.
